Chivas USA Head Coach Preki was in his native Serbia attending to family-related issues, so Chivas USA was led by Assistant Coach Mike Matkovich for the game. Matkovich, on Sunday’s match: “Obviously we are disappointed. With 12 minutes away,
we lose a mark on a dead ball, we give up a soft goal. We’ve got a guy on the post and the goalkeeper gets his hands on it and then it squeaks in. So we’ve got to pray that things go our way on the other game, unfortunately both games are staggered, and they’ve got a little bit of an edge because they play after us. At least on the day I think the guys played very well. I thought we were the better side, I thought we created better chances, no disrespect for them, but things didn’t go our way today. … I hope [Santos] can do it. I hope they put their best team out and I’m sure they will, and hopefully the result goes our way.” (For a full quote sheet, please visit http://www.cdchivasusa.com/.)
